Take in a View From Mount Mitchell

At 6,684 feet, Mount Mitchell is the highest peak east of the Mississippi. Mount Mitchell State Park, accessed from Milepost 355 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, offers a museum with history of the site alongside recreational opportunities like camping and hiking. Visitors who want to skip the 11-mile round trip hike from the base of the mountain, can make the much shorter walk to the observation platform from a parking lot near the summit.
